He was, along with his father and brothers, included in a respite granted by King James V 17 July 1526 for the slaughter of Cornelius de Mathetema, a Dutchman, at the Tolbooth of Edinburgh. He was a party to an agreement with the Cunninghams on 21 August 1533. He claimed right to the lands of Clock, in Renfrewshire, in 1548, and was a witness on 23 February 1562-63. He had two illegitimate sons, both named James, who were legitimated 9 April 1554.3
