Various traditions have formed around his name which need not be dwelt upon here, the rather that they are to be found in a work entirely devoted to the family. So far as record goes, however, his name is known only from charters in which his son Malcolm is referred to, but he was probably of Flemish origin. He is said to have flourished at the court of King Malcolm III, and to have married a sister of that King. He is also said to have received the lands of Leslie for his services, and to have died, an old man, in 1121. Nothing of all this is authenticated, and it will be shown that he probably lived much later, while it is very doubtful if he ever possessed Leslie.3
