| He was a Jesuit, and spent most of his life abroad, being Professor of Hebrew and Divinity at Paris, Bordeaux, Rome, etc. He was, however, frequently in Scotland, and was an indefatigable agent of his church. He gave much trouble both to the Council and General Assembly ; he was twice at least imprisoned, the last time in Edinburgh Castle in 1598, after which the Privy Council passed an act of perpetual banishment against him.5 | ||
