He was raised in the house of his grandmother Birgitte Thott. He travelled in his youth to France. He was an envoy at the diet of Regensburg in 1540. Envoy in France 1541. Member o9f the Privy Council of Denmark from1543. He was an envoy to Sweden 1544, and 1547 and 1550 to the Emperor. 1555 he was an envoy to Lübeck, 1556 to Preussen and Livland. He was knighted in 1559.7
