The date might be wrong. A copy of a document written by Matthew Sinclair of Gruting is dated 20 August 1570, see "Shetland Documents 1195-1579", no. 186. It definitely seem to be the same Matthew Sinclair.

He must have been his father's oldest son and died before him, as his son Henry is called heir of his grandfather in 1589.6
