Personal Info
He confirmed (the Crown confirmation is dated 1 April 1354), as Knight and Lord of Maxwell, a grant by Robert Sadler to Roger de Auldton of the lands of Westersoftlaw bounded as in the time of Herbert of Maxwell, the late lord thereof. Sir John's relationship to his predecessor is unknown, but he must have been the nearest heir of Herbert Maxwell. As Lord of Carlaverock he granted his lands of Pencaitland to Alexander Maitland.6
