The relationship is nowhere documented, neither in Forsandboka nor in any other known litterature. However, based on the names Gard and Tore (Gard is an extremely rare name) which were common at Underberge, there seems to be a link between the family at Underberge and Gard Toreson's family. The link presented here seems to be the most likely one.

He is only mentioned once, when he in 1467 traded his farm Holta with Haukali, which was a farm close to Underberge. He was not a nobleman. Sigleif Engen says that he perhaps married a commoner. He would not become a commoner by marrying a commoner. It's more likely his mother was a commoner. And Ragnhild Eyvindsdatter, the wife of Tore Gardson does seem to have been a commoner as neither she nor her sisters are mentioned by any noble title. ("Hustru" would be the expected title for the lower nobility.) Tore Gardson himself no doubt was a nobleman. Tore at Berge and his descendants at Berge was however some of the most powerful farmers in the area. We see from other areas that these farmers often descended from the lower nobility.4
