| Vilrik was during his childhood constantly moving with his parents around in the valleys where his father was engaged in railway building. As his father he wished to become an engineer. He left home 14 years old in order to have his education in Trondheim. He succeeded and got his papers in 1921. Just as his father he started the carreer with NSB ("Norges Statsbaner", the Norwegian Railways). He worked 8 years on Raumabanen and before the war some years in Drammen, but most of his life on the main railway between Trondheim and Bodø in the north of the country. The first years he was a field worker, later a constructor and administrator. He moved a lot of times with his family, from Åndalsnes to Grong, Mosjøen, Drammen, Bodø, and Mo. After World War II he was engaged by the government to take part in rebuilding the cities and villages destroyed by the German army 1940-45 in the north of Norway. He continued this work until a couple of years before he retired from his employment with the railways in 1970. His work was his hobby, the family his happiness and all people his friends.11 | ||
