Personal Info
Robert Gordon built Esslemont House during the lifetime of his second wife. The older portion is incorporated into the present new mansion-house. He is mentioned as voting for Ferguson of Pitfour in the contested election of Aberdeenshire in 1756. He gave a site for an Episcopal church at Chapelhall during the period of the penal laws. Mr. and the Lady Henrietta Gordon appear to have lived sometime at Fechil, which had been purchased by the Earl of Aberdeen, her brother. The Gordons seem never to have lived in the old tower built by the Cheynes in 1500.14
