He was the last of his family to hold the estate of Gartur. He bequeathed his own estate of Gartur (called Woodend), near Stirling, to Lord William Grahame, second son of the third Duke of Montrose, but the conveyance was found invalid, and the estate went to a Miss Graham, a cousin of his own and his nearest heir.6
