He had from George, fifth Earl of Caithness, his brother, a charter of the lands of Barrock, 3 September 1591, and of Ratter, etc., 7 April 1613, to himself in liferent, and William, Alexander, John, James, and Francis, his sons, successively in fee. His testament is recorded in the Caithness Commissariot (Deeds) 21 December 1622.11
