Presumably born in France, entered the British Army, 10 November 1773, as ensign 1st Battalion 1st Regiment of Foot, lieutenant same regiment 18 April 1776, captain 82nd Foot 6 January 1778, major 76th Foot 7 March 1784, major half-pay on the disbandment of the regiment 8 March following. After his wife's death he returned to active service, being appointed major 20th Foot 9 December 1789.5
