He was educated with his brothers. He aided his brother. Sir Robert, in the management of the Sutherland estates. He held the lands of Navidale and others in the parish of Kildonan. He was knighted by King James VI in 1617 at Holyrood. He went to Ireland 1631; returned to Scotland in 1636. Again went to Ireland, but though researches have been made in that country nothing further has been discovered regarding him.5
