-Amalia Larsdatter was the eighth and youngest child of Lars Simonsen Norland. -Lars Simonsen, wife Anna Gitlesdatter and children lived on a farm at Norland, Hole Parish. -Lars, wife Anna Gitlesdatter and their daughters Anna & Amalia emigrated to the USA in 1893. Detailed records of the family's emigration appear to have been lost. -Upon arrival in the USA, instead of taking the family name of Larsdatter, Amalia took the family name of Norland. -Amalia Norland met Henry O. Halverson in North Dakota, USA and they married in 1897.
