He was at school at Kettins, Dundee, and Montrose, where he stayed till he was fourteen, at which mature age he was married and went to live with his father. After the death of the latter he found the estates in very bad order; some of them had been sold and the others were heavily mortgaged, while the house itself was in a very dilapidated condition. This he rebuilt, and would have done much more for the estates if he had had time and money. But he did not hold them long, dying only five years after his father.12
