He was served heir to his father 10 June 1586.6
In 1602 he was ruined, from having been cautioner for Duncan Leslie, son to the laird of Wardes, and probably his mother's brother, who fled the country. He complained of being starved, and unable to maintain a wife and sundry young infants.7
