He witnessed an instrument of sasine from William Sinclair, Earl of Orkney, to his son William of the barony of Newburgh in 16 November 1459, together with Alexander Mowat, son and apparent heir of John Mowat of Loscragy. Walter therefore must have been a close relative of Alexander, perhaps his brother.1
