He was served heir to his father by special service, 28 September 1683, and his name is included in the lists of commissioners named in the Acts of Supply passed by Parliament in the reigns of King James VII, 1685, King William, May 1698, and Queen Anne, 1704. This John Gordon built the house of Hallhead in 1686.5
