He renounced his provision of 10,000 merks from lands of Cumbernauld to John, second Earl, on 5 May 1620. He was the alleged ancestor of Charles Ross Fleming, who claimed the earldom of Wigtown. This Alexander was also claimed as an ancestor by the Rev. W. Alexander Fleming of Bishopthorpe Vicarage, Leeds.4
